“Avatar” and the Gaia hypothesis

Some thoughts and questions about the Gaia Hypothesis of James Lovelock. “Mars is lifeless,” he says, and tells Carl Sagan that, no, life cannot exist there in “oases” of favorable conditions. My question: How then must we see the earth itself? Is our planet an “oasis” in a lifeless solar system? Might not the universe itself be a living organism, if the earth is?

Quantum Physics is showing us (in mathematical terms) that everything is energy. Matter, in whatever form, is energy. Right now there is an energy crisis on Earth. If the Universe has a consciousness, and we are tipping the balance, then we are a cancer. We need to adapt to a different kind of world. When we first evolved, the world was live or die. Now, many believe in life after death. We broke the Circle Of Life?
Cosmic Consciousness is closer to God. There are heavens all around us in space.

7:58 – end: yes, of course.

The long and short of discussion of all such speculations (or obvious realities from some exceptional beings) is the mind body problem. My own take is idealistic, because there can be no “whole” without a mind, however primitive, which apprehends the whole. Dead parts don’t apprehend anything, let alone themselves as parts of any whole. There being no whole or interaction without mind, there is no complexity without mind. Hence no arising of mind from complexities.

one simple question: If this theory is indeed true and our plant, space and also us share a possible conciousness, would that mean finally scientists would have to at least entertain the idea of (yes Im going to say it) god? and if it does, what then for science??
We know such an amazing amount about our planet these days, the animals that have lived here, and the atmosphere and how it behaves, and now what chemicals it consists of.
Ive heard the words intelligent design before, is earth that

I’ve always liked the idea of Gaia. I imagine Science backs away from it because of it’s ‘new agey’ connotations. I don’t blame them either. Quantum Physics has been somewhat ‘hijacked’ by gurus selling books and seminars. Take such things too seriously and the next thing ya know you’re drinking koolade in a cult compound.
Skepticism serves one well, I’ve discovered over my years, and the truth is more important to me than what I want to believe. If it’s true it will eventually speak for itself.

@OneLivingRhythm: This is amazing information, about the EM field surrounding earth. I do not remember reading about it. Your argument, that the indications of consciousness in ourselves imply consciousness in the universe, is logically sound. I fully agree.

The Earth is imbued with, and surrounded by, The EM Field which resonates in rhythmic hertz (1-69 hz). These waves perfectly correspond with OUR States of Consciousness (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, Gamma), which, in turn, perfectly correspond with the waves/rays of light in outer space. If these wave/states don’t mean Space/the Earth are Conscious – then they MUST mean we are not Conscious either. We can’t have it both ways. The Cosmos is just as ALIVE and KNOWING as are we or nothing is.

Thanks for this video. Your thoughts at the end remind me of what Alan Watts said about life, that it, like human meaning and intelligence, is intrinsic to the universe as a whole. This view of a living, intelligent universe stands in contrast to seeing life and human beings as mere flukes.
