Earth Day 2010

Earth Day 2010

Earth Day, celebrated in the US on April 22nd, is a day designed to raise and inspire awareness & appreciation for the Earth’s environment. Earth Day Itself was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries around the world. The date itself is important as it marks the start of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere , however The United Nations celebrates Earth Day on the March equinox, normally on March 20th, a date set in 1969 by a peace activist called John McConnell.

The event is now approaching it’s 40th Anniversary and it a Global Day of Action will take place on April 22nd, 2010 by the The Green Generation™. Earth Day Network or EDN would like you to join the The Green Generation™ in one, or both of following ways-

(1) By planning a green Community event for the big day in 2010
(2) By performing your own personal green act such as installing energy efficient lighting, buying a greener car (or selling the old one!) or by planting trees or enhancing a garden.

Once your Act of Green is complete, you will then be part of the billion around the globe who have joined The Green Generation™. This movement can then be used to take action around a single platform which focuses on scrapping coal, providing green schools complete with renewable energy and energy-efficient designs and technologies.

EDN’s global petition will be circulated on Earth Day Network’s website at the beginning of May, 2009 to be later delivered to worldwide government leaders.
