Climate Change Talks Copenhagen
Leaders from around the globe are meeting in Copenhagen to agree a huge leap forward in addressing the ever growing problem of global warming. The Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Yvo de Boer, was recently quoted as saying “A deal in Copenhagen this year is an unequivocal requirement to stop climate change from slipping out of control”
Connie Hedegaard, president of the UNFCCC and Denmark’s former environment minister was quoted as saying “This is our chance. If we miss it, it could take years before we get a new and better one, if we ever do,”
A successful Copenhagen Climate Change deal should be put together to help map out how further global cooperation can be catalyzed by an agreement on at least the main and highly critical four political, points, listed as -
1. Ambitious emission reduction targets for developed countries
2. Nationally appropriate mitigation actions of developing economies
3. Scaling up financial and technological support for both adaptation and mitigation
4. An effective institutional framework with governance structures that address the needs of developing countries.
