Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Tips
Help make a difference to the environment (and your health) by replacing your toxic cleaning gear with eco friendly cleaning products. By removing some of the toxins in the air you will renew and rejuvenate your home and the people that live within in it and you will not be polluting the environment.
It has been recently been shown that by living in a less toxic, eco friendly home home which is removed from neurotoxic cleaning chemicals actually improves sleep and concentration, makes babies more relaxed, and gives an overall sense of well-being. You can help reduce your homes toxic load on the environment by following these simple and easy to use steps.
Eco floor cleaning
Clean laminate, vinyl or tiled flooring by adding 6 tablespoons of vinegar into 2 litres of hot water (but not boilng water). If you have carpet and need to remove a stain the same cleaning ingredients may be used however you need to mix on a 1:1 equal part basis and attempt to blot the stain using a clean cloth or kitchen roll.
Eco glass cleaning
Again vinegar is a good solution for keeping your windows and tables sparkling. Use the same mixing ratio as above, a nice clean cloth then dry with newspaper that has been pre-scrunched.
Eco wood cleaning
A great way to clean wood is to mix 1 part olive oil with an equal part of lemon juice. You then just need to apply the mixture onto the wood then rub / polish with a clean dry cloth. An alternative method for stubborn watermarks is just to rub in and rub off some toothpaste.
Eco toilet cleaning
Keep loos clean and fresh - put eight tbsp of soda in the bowl. Leave overnight. Sprinkle soda onto a damp cloth to clean toilet seat and cistern, then wipe with a wet cloth.
Eco drain cleaning
Nice and simple, just put down 1 part soda, followed by four parts of heated vinegar. Leave the mixture to take effect for as long as possible (mutliple hours).
Eco stainless steel cleaning
Soda water to the rescue hear, simply make a paste using both, then apply to the steel, leave for a few minutes then wipe away.
Eco oven cleaning
Vinegar and hot water should do the trick. Make the mixture 1 part of each then apply to the oven using a damp cloth.
Eco bathroom cleaning
Most surfaces in the bathroom can be cleaned using 2 parts soda and 1 part lemon juice (lemon also leaves a nice smell in the bathroom than vinegar, though vinegar can be used as well). Leave the solution for around 5-10 minutes then wipe away using a brush or sponge.
Eco mold & mildew removal
A great way to remove mold and mildew is by by making a mix of 1 part vinegar (or lemon juice) to 1 part baking powder. Simply apply the solution to the mold using a cloth (loosley) then leave for and hour before rinsing off with cold water and a sponge.
Eco air freshener's
To help rerplace those toxic air fresheners you can make an eco frindly solution by using baking soda. Mix 8 tablespoons with an essential oil of your liking into a bowl. The soda will help to eleimate odours and the oil will put fragrence into the air.
