die humans die! (being sarcastic) but sometimes spoilt brats need to be told fuck earth and earth hates you you you you .. where’s my?
It’s a quaint notion that the world is in fact a single organism but that simply just isn’t the case. For one thing the earth doesn’t reproduce, which is a requirement of being a living organism. And from a less technical standpoint it is clear that humans are existing out of this self regulating balance. One thing that I do agree with about this theory is that the earth has the potential to shift from what we perceive to be the norm to a mode which would prove far less hospitable for us.
The astronomer Carl Sagan remarked that from a cosmic viewpoint, the space probes since 1959 have the character of a planet preparing to go to seed.
Earth is using humans to plant a seed on another planet!!

If you haven’t read James Lovelocks “The revenge of Gaia” I can highly recommend it. A wonderful book.
It’s such a shame that this video, and others of James Lovelock have been viewed by so few people.
I would hope everyone posts them on their facebook or myspace. It’s more important than ever that messages like this are brought to the publics attention.
James Lovelock is a great communicator, and if people were given the facts as he sees them they might not be so complacent to think that recycling their milk cartons once a week is enough to save the Earth.
makes sense. i still think that other types of life can contain, and thrive in much different atmosphereical conditions.
i think life can thrive in a place where helium or any other gas is abundant. as long as there is water or ice.
maybe not even water.
we can make machines and engines that run off a virtually any gas or liquid found on earth in one wayor another so why cant natural biological mechanical organisms like us find away to live off of it.
i think gaia has been around 4 some time in certain religions, think lovelovk made it scientific which is quiet a feat in itself.
I think he created that hypothesis. Not very shure.
seing the connections among events
that is part of the definition of superstition.
It is VERY easy to see connections, it is only through scientific investigation that you will discover disconnections that you never knew about.
It is precisely the reason why this planet is trouble. Too many people can not see the interconnected nature of all things. Read E O Wilson
Gaia is not an idea. It’s something I can see with my own eyes. Something that trancetechnicians percieve and communicate (with) since thousands of years.
Gaia is a very interesting idea
but it is also a very naive and stupid idea
there is really no way for it to be possible that the earth as a single common interest.
James Lovelock has just now come out with a statement that the Earth will Purge 6 Billion People in the Next 90 years
and that can’t be stopped….
unless Humanity gets in first.
Very interesting idea
This is an excellent documentary. I have the full set, and I highly recommend them.
yes
Im confused, was Lovelock the man who pioneered the Gaia hypothesis??
